Worley's Strong Season Continues in Trenton

Eight shutout innings help RPhils avoid four game sweep.

Worley: 8 IP, 3 K, 3 H, BB
In 2009 Reading right-hander Vance Worley won just one game after the All-Star break. In 2010 he matched that total in his first start.

Worley pitched eight scoreless innings yesterday, leading the RPhils to a 4-0 shutout of Trenton. The victory ended Reading's six-game losing streak (tied for the longest of the season) and avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the Thunder.

Worley was the pitcher of record the last time Reading put one in the win column, retiring 18 straight Senators in a complete-game shutout July 9. This time Worley sat down 12 straight batters at one point. Over his last two outings, he has given up just six hits in 17 innings.

Matt Rizzotti staked his pitcher to an early lead with a three-run home run in the top of the first.

Reading opens a three-game set at Erie tonight before returning home Thursday for four games against Akron.
